EINY 5th grade and Middle School students had the opportunity to welcome and meet Mr. Junior Nzita Nsuami, a former child warfare fighter from Congo. Junior came to EINY to speak with students in Grades 5-8 about the exploitation of children in civil wars in Africa and about children’s rights. He presented his autobiography “If my life as a child soldier could be told”, and his experience as a child forced into war and separated from his family by warlords.
EINY students asked questions and interviewed Junior. They were touched by his story.
Our Middle School students presented a generous donation of $800 (that was raised during the Penny Olympics) to the organization that Junior founded “Paix pour l’Enfance”. The organization’s main goal is to contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights of children.
