On Thursday, April 21st, our students in grades 3-5 went to Bryant Park to participate in the annual “Poem in Your Pocket Day” at the Bryant Park Reading Room, an annual citywide event that encourages New Yorkers of all ages to carry a poem in their pocket to share with friends, coworkers and family.
The Bryant Park Reading Room has hosted this event since 2005 and it serves as the official kickoff to the Bryant Park’s World for Word literary series. The centerpiece of this event is the “open mic” session at which over 150 NYC poets ages 6 to 18 read their own work to an audience of poetry lovers.
For 2016 edition, 15 EINY students read their poem in front of the audience bathing in the sun and taking in the shade under the trees.
