An update on our new building is long overdue!

Those of you who drop off your children at the Elementary and Middle School Building in the morning, in particular, will know it’s been pretty busy next door: trucks carrying material, workers coming in and out, and a general flurry of activities.

Elementary classrooms on the third floor have been assigned, and teachers had the opportunity to visit last week so they could start working on the layout of their rooms for next year. The sheetrock is up almost everywhere, and you start really getting a feel for how spacious the classrooms will be. Low-voltage wires are being installed while the walls are being closed with sheetrock on both sides. HVAC, plumbing, and electrical are moving at a brisk pace.

The framing in Middle School–on the second floor—is complete except for around the stairs. However, the sheetrock is not completely up yet, so we will wait for that to be done before organizing the Middle School teachers’ visit. We are considering moving to a dedicated classroom-per-subject model (as opposed to what we do now, which is one classroom per grade with teachers moving from room to room). Nothing is set in stone yet, though.

The curious among you can peek through the door in the mornings and see the ground floor taking shape: the gym floor has been leveled, the steel frame of the stadium seating is up, and the new stairs to the second floor are in place.

Right now, we are in the process of testing and selecting different colors to stain the concrete in some areas of the floor and match epoxy colors with the paint on the walls.

And that’s all we have for you today; we’ll continue to keep you posted via these semi-regular newsletters! Looking forward to seeing those of you who can make it to the consulate tonight!
